Registry Check Policy
Effective date: September 30, 2026 · Member notice version registry-notice/1.0.0 · Under counsel review
What Graxe checks before a member joins, what a match does and does not mean, how to dispute one, and what is kept.
1. Purpose and scope
Graxe is a private matchmaking service whose members meet in person. Before anyone can join, Graxe checks the name and date of birth on their government-issued identification against one public registry. This Policy describes that check. It is part of, and additional to, our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and it is the policy the Registry Check Notice in the app refers to.
Every member is checked the same way. This is not a criminal background check, and no other record is searched.
2. What is checked, and how
The name and date of birth read from your identification on your own device, together with your state, are compared against the National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW), the public registry maintained by the United States Department of Justice, which aggregates the public registries of the states, territories and tribes. Your identification image and your photographs never leave your device for this check; only the name, the date of birth and the state are sent, and only for this purpose.
The check runs once, at joining, on the day it runs. It does not run again on its own.
3. Notice and acknowledgment
Before your identification is read you are shown the Registry Check Notice in the app and asked to acknowledge it. The notice is versioned and fingerprinted, and your acknowledgment is recorded against the exact version you read. You may decline by leaving enrolment before your identification is read; if you decline, no check is run and nothing is kept.
4. What a match means
A match on a name and date of birth is not a decision. Names and dates of birth are shared by many people, and a wrong match is possible. A person at Graxe reviews every match before anything happens. Only a confirmed match prevents you from joining, and if it does, you will be told that this is the reason. No automated system decides this on its own, and the review is never delegated to another member.
5. If you believe a match is wrong
Email support@graxe.ai and say that you dispute the registry match. Graxe will arrange a full identity and background verification through an independent provider at no cost to you, and will admit you if it clears the match. You will be told the outcome by email.
6. What Graxe keeps
Graxe keeps only the result of the check (clear, under review, cleared, or held), the date it ran, the version of the notice you acknowledged, and a reference number. Graxe does not keep a copy of any registry record, and no detail from the registry is stored, shown, or used anywhere else in Graxe. A clear result is erased with your account. How long a held result is retained, so that the same identification cannot be used to join again, is a period counsel is setting; it will be stated here, and the reason for a hold is never stored.
7. What the result is not used for
The result is never a badge, never part of matching, never shown to another member, and never used to rank or recommend anyone. Other members never see whether you were checked, because every member was. Biometric information is not used for this check or for any screening decision.
8. Limits of the check
A registry search finds what one public list holds about a name and a date of birth on one day. It can miss a person who is not listed under the name on their identification, and it says nothing about anyone's conduct before or after that day. It is one measure among several, and it is not a guarantee about any member. The precautions in Section 2 of the Terms of Service apply to every meeting.
9. Governance and changes
This Policy and the Registry Check Notice are under review by counsel. If either changes in a way that matters, the notice is reissued with a new version, and members are asked to acknowledge the new text before it applies to them. Material changes to this Policy are posted here with a new effective date.
